As we all know that the internet is an entertaining place to be and you will almost never run out of things to do. It plays an important role of modern man’s everyday life, but that does not mean the Internet is life. There are lot of things that can be done on the Internet, you can do research for an assignment, play online computer games, watch movies, listen to music, communicate with friends and relatives and of course do online shopping. However, spending hours and hours in front of the computer too much is something really bad. Showing affection or love to the Internet turns into an obsession eventually addiction can happen to anyone.

Many people suffer from the addiction to the internet and have a hard time paying attention to important things around them, then this is a serious problem these days and lot of people from all walks of life fall victim to it. In fact, internet addiction is already considered as a disorder and it is currently classified as a type of obsessive-compulsive disorder because addiction to the Internet is an urge or even a craving to engage in ritualistic behavior.

To be honest with you, even I before I’m suffering with this internet addiction disorder (IAD) I can’t live without internet for more than a few hours because it will needed for school and work projects. I prefer to be online than go out with people and when I’m get tired on surfing the various site links I can rest by checking my emails, chatting with friends in IM, updating my profile on a social network site and posting on online forum message board. When I’m got offline I will look forward to go back online again and I already experience other symptoms like headaches, dry eyes and many more.

Here in the Philippines, most of the people have an IAD are the online gamers. It is already addictive to most young children. Recently, I observed that most of the online gamers in Internet Café in our place were ages 6-15 years old. The reason why they were addictive on online games is the fun, excitement, adrenaline rush of some gamers and they were challenged it for getting a rare items.

I interviewed a 6 year-old boy who is playing an online game that time in Internet Café and he said that he played the online game about 5 months already because he just favored that he will temporary played the online game character for maintenance by the friend of his older brother. The friend of his older brother will paid him a P450 every weekend which covers the hours of playing in Internet Café. And I ask him if his parents know about that, he said that his older brother only knows but their parent doesn’t know and they will hide it to them. Maybe, this scenario also happens to some place in the Philippines.

Getting rid of Internet addiction is quite simple but very hard to do even me I suffered it for 5 years. The key to this problem is the self-discipline, limiting the use of the Internet so that it will allow other things to be done.
