Despite the economic recession and the knowledge that Philippines is one of the Third World countries, 100,000 bill of Philippine money is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest banknote of legal tender in the world.

The gold-colored 100,000 peso bill was created in commemoration for the 1898 – 1998 centennial and it was issued during the Centennial of Philippine Independence in 1998 with only 1000 copies. This bill has a larger size than the usual Philipppine money with the size of 355.6 mm and 215.9 mm. It has 21 security codes for forgery protection. “Ang Sigaw ng Himagsikan” which is the Cry of the Pugadlawin led by Andres Bonifacio marking the beginning of the revolt against the Spaniards, “Ang salaping papel na ito ay bayarin ng Bangko Sentral at pananagutan ng Republika ng Pilipinas”, “Isandaang Libong Piso” and a Banko Central ng Pilipinas logo, were marked at the front side.

On the reverse side, “Pagpapahayag ng Kasarinlan ng Pilipinas noong Hunyo 12, 1898” which means the announcement made by General Emilio Aguinaldo at Cavite to the Filipino people of the Independence Day is shown. As it is considered by the Guinness World Records as the largest banknote, it is produced not for consumer’s purposes but serves as collector’s item only.
